The guardians of a minor can mutually authorise each other or a person of their choice to handle the minor's matters on their own.
Suomi.fi e-Authorizations are almost always used in electronic services. The mandate for using pharmacy services is an exception to this rule: a person who has been granted the pharmacy mandateOpens in a new window. can use pharmacy services on behalf of the assignor in person; the mandate is not restricted to electronic services.
Select the matters that others can do on your behalf
In Suomi.fi e-Authorizations, you cannot grant a comprehensive mandate to all your matters at once, i.e. you cannot grant a so-called general power of attorney. In Suomi.fi e-Authorizations, you select the matters that can be managed on your behalf.
For example, you can grant your spouse a mandate to manage your health care matters. This mandate gives your spouse access to your health information in e-services that use the mandate theme in question.
Once you grant a mandate, the recipient – company, association or other organisation, i.e. the assignee – can manage your affairs electronically in services that utilise Suomi.fi e-Authorizations You can grant as many mandates as you wish and to as many parties as you wish.
Assignees do not need to approve their mandates
Assignees do not need to approve the mandates you grant them in any way. Remember to let the assignee know that you have given them a mandate.
When a mandate you have granted is about to expire, you will first receive a message about it in Suomi.fi Messages if you are using the Messages service. Otherwise, the only way to see the mandates that are expiring is to go to Suomi.fi e-Authorizations and view the mandates you have granted.
You cannot automatically extend the validity of a mandate you have already granted. Instead, you have to grant the mandate again if you want the assignee to be able to continue acting on your behalf. If you do not have a Finnish personal identity code, you must obtain a foreigner’s identifier and the Finnish Authenticator application to identify in Suomi.fi e-Authorizations and grant mandates.
However, there are very few services that allow transactions with mandates by persons without a Finnish personal identity code.
If you want to grant a mandate for someone to act on your behalf in an organisation’s service, ask them if there is any other way to provide a power of attorney.
You can also grant a mandate to a company to act on your behalf. To grant such a mandate, you need the company’s business ID.
The company will pass your mandate to its employees.
You can grant a mandate to a Finnish citizen who lives abroad. For a Finnish citizen who lives abroad to act on your behalf electronically, they must have a Finnish identification token, such as online banking codes, mobile ID or a certificate card.
If the person who lives abroad does not have a Finnish identification token, they will not be able to use electronic services on your behalf, as they require strong identification with a Finnish identification token.
You can grant a mandate to a person who does not have a Finnish personal identity code if they have a foreigner’s identifier (UID) and the Finnish Authenticator application.
However, there are very few e-services that allow the use of Finnish Authenticator. Find out in advance if Finnish Authenticator can be used the e-services that the individual must be able to use on your behalf.
All Suomi.fi mandates you have granted will expire automatically when you are subject to non-disclosure for personal safety reasons or when the period of such non-disclosure is extended. If you wish to continue using the e-Authorizations, you have to grant the mandates again.
