Acting on behalf of an adult

A person aged over 18 who does not have a guardian can decide for themselves if they want another person to manage their affairs.

If the service has allowed acting on behalf of another person with a mandate, a person aged over 18 can grant the required electronic mandates independently. For instructions, go to the Granting mandates as a person page.

A person acting on behalf of someone aged over 18 may also request mandates for transactions from a person aged over 18, in which case the assignor only needs to approve the mandate request. If the person acting on behalf of another person only notices that they do not have the necessary mandates when selecting the role of acting on behalf of another person in the e-service, they can proceed to Suomi.fi e-Authorizations to make a mandate request by pressing the Request mandates button. In this case, the mandate themes used in the service in question are preselected for the request.

Please note that you cannot use services that use Suomi.fi e-Authorizations on behalf of another person in the following situations:

  • A guardian is appointed to a person, who has granted the mandate. In such a case the mandates that the person has previously granted will be invalidated, and they can no longer grant mandates to other people.
  • A guardian is appointed to the assignee. In such a case the mandates granted to them will be invalidated, and they can no longer act as an assignee.

Acting on behalf of a person, who does not have a Finnish personal identity code, is not possible in all e-services. Check the website of the organisation responsible for the service to see if on-behalf transactions are possible.
