Messages after a person’s death

A person's Suomi.fi Messages account is automatically closed when the Digital and Population Data Services Agency has been informed of the person’s death. In this case, new messages cannot be sent to the deceased person's electronic mailbox. Any incoming messages will be directed to paper mailing.

An estate will not have access to a deceased person's Suomi.fi Messages. You can directly contact the authorities whose messages sent to the deceased you would like the estate to be informed of.
If you are unsure which authority’s messages you need, you can send an informal request for the deceased person’s messages to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency’s registry office (kirjaamo@dvv.fi). The request must include the deceased person’s personal identity code. At the request of the estate, the Digital and Population Data Services Agency may request organisations that have sent messages in the last three months to deliver messages received by the deceased person in their Suomi.fi Messages to the estate as a paper letter. The organisation that sent the message decides which of the messages received by the deceased are sent to the estate.
