Guardianship

If you have a guardian or a donee with a continuing power of attorney, you can still use Suomi.fi Messages. You can also grant and receive mandates for Suomi.fi Messages by means of Suomi.fi e-Authorizations. In addition, you can use Suomi.fi Messages to handle matters related to your company or underaged child without a separate authorization.

Using Suomi.fi Messages as a guardian or donee with a continuing power of attorney

If you are a guardian or a donee with a continuing power of attorney, you can manage your client’s Suomi.fi Messages without a separate mandate if all the following conditions are met:

• you have the right to manage the client’s financial affairs.
• your right to act has not been restricted in the power of attorney document to a specific asset (such as real estate or business operations).
• you can represent the client alone.

A separate mandate granted with Suomi.fi e-Authorizations is required if the conditions are not met.

If the client cannot identify themselves in Suomi.fi Messages and you need help closing their electronic mailbox, you can contact the advisory service on Suomi.fi services. Once the use of Suomi.fi Messages is discontinued, messages will be delivered to the client as paper mail.

Suomi.fi Messages may include messages concerning both personal and financial matters. Even though a guardian or donee with a continuing power of attorney is authorized to use Suomi.fi Messages as the client’s representative, you may only open messages that fall under your mandate. A guardian’s duties are defined by the court or the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. The scope of a continuing power of attorney is defined in the power of attorney document created by the client.
