Wellbeing services county

The wellbeing services county produces the following in its own region

  • social welfare and health care services
  • rescue services

The wellbeing services county is responsible for social welfare and health care centres, hospitals and rescue services.

There are 21 wellbeing services counties in Finland. Additionally, the City of Helsinki provides its own social welfare and health care services, which means that it does not belong to any wellbeing services county.

How can I exert influence in my wellbeing services county?

The wellbeing services county has self-government. The supreme decision-making power of the counties is exercised by the county council. Its members are elected in county elections.

County elections are held in April every four years. Read more about voting in county elections.

You can also submit an initiative on a matter concerning your wellbeing services county. The wellbeing services counties also have a council for the elderly, a council on disability and a youth council.

Where does the wellbeing services county receive its funding?

The wellbeing services county receives its funding mainly from the state. In other words, the counties do not collect any separate tax from the inhabitants in the area.
