Change negotiations and lay-offs

Companies covered by the Act on Co-operation within Undertakings must negotiate any changes that affect employees in advance. One of these changes includes lay-offs.

The Act on Co-operation covers:

  • all companies that regularly employ at least 50 people in full.
  • all companies that regularly employ 20–49 employees in part.

The Act on Co-operation within Undertakings does not apply to employers with under 20 employees.

Lay-offs or giving notice are not the only option when your company must react to fluctuations in the need for workforce. For example, arrangements of working hours or training your employees may be a more flexible solution during quiet periods.
