On this page, you can find a list of personal data that you can change independently on the Personal data page.
Instructions for changing or correcting other personal data and, for example, notifying a change of address, are available on the Changes in personal data through authorities page.
How to change details independently through Suomi.fi:
Personal data | Instructions |
|---|---|
Block on notification of move | You can prevent unauthorised changes to your address information in the Population Information System. The block on a notification of move is intended for persons whose data has been used to submit an unauthorised notification of move or who fear that their data will be used to submit an unauthorised notification of move. Usually, in these cases, the person has lost an identity document or it has been stolen. If you have blocked the notification of change of address, your notification will not be processed until you remove the block. If necessary, also submit an address change block and protection form to Posti to ensure that a change of address cannot be made to Posti either. |
Communication language | If your native language is not Finnish or Swedish, you can indicate whether you will use the services of Finnish authorities in Finnish or Swedish. |
Email address | Email address is only displayed if you have entered it personally. Please note that the email address saved in the Population Information System is not automatically updated in other services. Remember to update your email address separately in all e-services that you use. For example, you can change the email address of Suomi.fi messages in the Messages service settingsOpens in a new window.. |
Native language | Native language is recorded in the Population Information System when a child’s names are notified or when a foreigner moves to Finland and are issued a personal identity code. You can change it independently. |
Non-disclosure of information | You can issue the following non-disclosures:
Non-disclosure of contact information: Your contact information will not be disclosed to address services or contact information services. |
Occupation | Occupation is only displayed if you have reported it personally, because the Population Information System does not receive information from employers. The details of your occupation are valid from the date the notification arrives.
Information on retirement is not recorded in the Population Information System. You can check your retirement details in the My pension service of the Finnish Centre for Pensions. If you like, you can report ‘pensioner’ as your profession. You can also leave your most recent occupation in effect or remove the occupation completely. |
Preferred name | Preferred name is only displayed if you have entered it personally. You can also remove the preferred name. You can report one of your official first names as your preferred name. The preferred name can also be a hyphenated name or part of a hyphenated name. |
Removing your non-disclosure for personal safety reasons | You can remove your personal non-disclosure for personal safety reasons. The non-disclosure for personal safety reasons and any contact address expire immediately. The information is transmitted from the Population Information System to other registers with a delay. You cannot personally reinstate a non-disclosure for personal safety reasons. If you need a non-disclosure for personal safety reasons again, apply for a non-disclosure order for safety reasons from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. |
Resigning from a religious community | You can resign from a religious community on the Personal data page. Your resignation will be immediately registered in the Population Information System, and the resignation is notified to the religious community. |
The data is entered in the Population Information System immediately. However, the data that you send between 23:00 and 01:00 is processed from 01:00 onwards. Your personal data will be updated in other authorities’ systems within a week.
