Using an ID card issued by the Police as an identification token

An ID card issued by the Police is a certificate card that can be used to verify your identity in e-services through the citizen certificate on the card's chip.

An ID card may be issued to

  • a Finnish citizen
  • a foreigner permanently residing in Finland who has been entered in the Finnish Population Information System and who has a valid residence permit or residence card or whose right of residence has been registered.

You can identify yourself with an ID card by activating the hightrust.id mobile application or by using a card reader and the card reader software. You can buy a card reader from a well-stocked computer accessory store or online.
