A citizen with limited means may be granted a legal counsel paid entirely or partly with State funds to assist them in a legal matter. Apply for legal aid from your local legal aid office.
Legal aid covers all legal matters. In cases processed abroad, legal aid covers legal advice. There are no legal aid services available to companies or organisations.
Legal aid is granted on the basis of your available means. If your available means are more than a specific sum, legal aid paid by the state will not be granted. Read more about the calculation of available means on the website of the National Legal Services Authority.Opens in a new window.
Legal aid is not granted if you have legal expenses insurance from which the costs are reimbursed. Legal expenses insurance is often part of other insurance policies, such as home or motor insurance. Check your insurance policy to see if you have legal expenses insurance.
