How to log in to an e-service that uses Suomi.fi e-Identification?
When you want to log in to an e-service that uses Suomi.fi e-Identification, follow these steps:
First, go to the website of the service you want to use.
Start identification by clicking the identification or login button in the service. For example, in Suomi.fi, you can find the Identification button at the top of every page.
Select an identification method depending on the identification token you use.
Follow the instructions for the selected identification method.
To stop the identification process, use the Cancel button. Never use the Back button in your browser to go back.
Never save the identification page address in your browser's bookmarks or use the address stored in your browser's history. The address is only valid for one identification session and will not work later.
Select the identification method according to the identification token you use:
an ID card issued by the police or an organisation card or smart card for workplaces: certificate card
a mobile certificate from DNA, Elisa or Telia: mobile certificate
online banking codes: the bank whose codes you use
the Hightrust.id mobile application: Hightrust.id
the Finnish Authenticator application or an identification token of another country: identification methods for foreigners
When you use a mobile certificate, you will see Telia’s logo during identification as Telia Finland Oyj provides the service for identification with mobile certificates. Identification also works with mobile certificates from DNA and Elisa.
If you are a Finnish citizen and live abroad, you cannot use e-services if you don’t have a strong identification token from Finland.
Currently, you can use a personal identity card as a token, which are issued by the police. You can use a personal identity card to log in to e-services, either by using a card reader on your computer or with the Hightrust.id application.
If a Finnish e-service allows foreigners to use it, you can also use the following to identify yourself:
an identification token issued by another EU Member State, if it has been approved for cross-border identification
the Finnish Authenticator application, after you activate it.
However, please note that when you use these identification tokens, you will not be linked to your Finnish personal identity code and your identity in Finland. If you use them, the e-service may not allow you to handle your matter in the same way as if you were acting as a Finn.
When you are identifying yourself, Suomi.fi e-Identification uses your personal identity code to check whether you have activated Suomi.fi Messages.
If you have already activated Suomi.fi Messages, you will continue to identify as usual.
If not, the identification service will first direct you to activate Suomi.fi Messages. After you activate Messages, you can continue to identify yourself as normal.
You’ll find the instructions to activate and use Suomi.fi Messages on the Using Suomi.fi Messages page.
If it’s the instructions for returning to paper mail, you’ll find them on the Stop using Suomi.fi Messages page.
When you want to leave the e-service, remember to always log out.
In Suomi.fi, you can find the Log out link at the top of the page under your name once you have identified yourself in the service.
In other e-services, the log out function can be placed differently. It can be a link or a button.
