The child participates in one year of pre-primary education before transitioning to comprehensive school. Play is still strongly present in pre-primary education. The aims of pre-primary education include promoting cooperation with homes and guardians and creating good preconditions for the growth, development and learning for the child.
After pre-primary education, the child is transferred to basic education. The aim of basic education is to support the pupils’ growth as human beings and members of society and teach them the knowledge and skills they need. Basic education provides everyone with the same eligibility for further studies.
Pre-primary education is part of early childhood education and care, and the child usually starts it in the year when they turn six.
