Self-assessment of fire safety

Rescue authorities supervise the fire safety of buildings.

The rescue services send the owners of residential buildings in particular self-assessment material, i.e. a fire safety guide and a self-assessment form. They are requested to return the completed form. The self-assessment forms provide the rescue services with an overview of the safety of residential buildings in the area. If the form is not returned, the rescue services will contact the owners.

Self-assessment is also a good way to ensure the fire safety of the property on your own initiative. You can use the self-assessment forms of rescue services for guidance:

The aim of fire safety self-assessment is to improve safety of properties and to prevent accidents. It helps to identify potential risks in a timely manner and ensure that fire safety requirements are met. Self-assessment is part of individual emergency planning under the Rescue Act.

The purpose of the self-assessment of fire safety is to improve the safety awareness of residents and to help detect and correct deficiencies in fire safety at home.

When you receive a fire safety self-assessment form from the rescue authorities:

Get acquainted with the safety at home guide that comes with the form.
Answer the questions on the form.
Return the form to the rescue authorities.
Correct the deficiencies that you found during the assessment.
Based on your responses, the rescue authorities will decide whether they should carry out a fire inspection in your property.

If you do not respond to the form, the rescue authorities can still carry out a fire inspection.

The authorities can also carry out fire inspections on a spot check basis.
