To get a driving licence, you need a driving licence permitOpens in a new window.. You must be at least 16 years old to get the permit and the permit is valid for three years. You need a driving licence permit to book a time for the driving examinationOpens in a new window.. You should apply for the permit well before booking a time for the theory test.

You can receive driving instruction in a driving school, or a private person (such as one of your parents) can obtain a driving instruction permit to give you driving lessons. These two methods can also be combined. You can already take driving lessons before applying for the driving licence permit.

Driving instruction for a passenger car includes at least 18 hours of driving lessons. You must also complete the four-hour training for candidates for first driving licences (EAS) unless you already have a driving licence for a motor vehicle (such as moped).

• you are able to apply them in different traffic situations and environments

The driving examination has two parts
