If you are a client of Tampere Employment and Growth Services and are planning to start studying, please contact your Personal Coach in good time. All studies must be reported in advance before they are started.

Contact our customer service for advice or leave a request for us to contact you in the Oma asiointi online service. You can also call the general advice service for personal customers.

If necessary, the Tampere Employment and Growth Services will examine your studies and give a statement to the unemployment insurance payer, Kela or the unemployment fund.

To whom and on what terms

You must meet certain conditions in order to be able to receive unemployment benefit when you are studying:

  • Your municipality of residence is Tampere and you belong to the target group of municipal employment pilot projects. Tampere is also responsible for the service for immigrants of Pirkanmaa who are in the process of integration.
  • You are over 25 years of age.
  • The total duration of your studies is less than six months.
  • Your studies will give you professional skills or promote your entrepreneurial plan.

Your studies must benefit your employment, so you cannot get unemployment benefit for, for example, studies that are clearly of a leisure nature of the full duration of your studies is more than six months, they are not short-term. In that case, you should find out whether you are entitled to independent or part-time studies supported by unemployment benefit.

If you wish to continue with studies that you previously suspended, at least one year must have passed since the suspension of the studies.

The right to short-term full-time study on unemployment benefit is a one-off entitlement. You will be entitled to it again once the 26-week working condition has been met and the maximum daily allowance period has been recalculated from the beginning.

It may be possible to study for short periods of time, as long as you contact the City of Tampere's Employment and Growth Services early enough.
