Rehabilitative residential accommodation of housing support

  • Service
  • Helsinki
  • Public service

Rehabilitative residential accommodation is offered in supported shared apartments, supported homes and small apartments.

Customers are selected through the IAP operations of Housing support.

Housing is based on a rental agreement and the Act on Residential Leases, complemented by the housing agreement.

Social care workers make home visits to the shared apartments and four of the supported homes. A supervisor is present at four of the supported homes and in Roihuvuori supported apartments during office hours. The Kulosaari support home has 24/7 supervision.

The small apartments are intended for self-supported living, but when tenants are moving in, they may receive support from local work services, such as home visits and regular meetings for a few months. Some of the small apartments are permanently included in the local work services.

Housing support social workers are in charge of the social work for the supported shared apartments and supported homes. The social work for the small apartments is regional.

To whom and on what terms

Supported housing apartments are intended for over 18-year-olds single people, both male and female, and couples without a home, who need support in regard to their housing and life management skills.

The service is free of charge.

Background information

Persons who are homeless or at risk of homelessness are offered guidance and counselling, and their situation is analyzed as a whole. The counselling service strives to resolve their housing problems and, if necessary, direct the client to using suitable social welfare and health services.

The advisers explain what services are available, how they can be accessed and what the preconditions for using them are. If necessary, counselling on applying for and coordinating different financial support forms is available. The advisers direct clients also to services offered by non-governmental organisations.
