Registering the protected occupational title of a hospital physicist (trained in Finland)

Hospital physicist is a protected occupational title in Finland. Professions with protected occupational titles may also be practised by those who possess the required training, experience and professional skills and knowledge. However, they are not entitled to use the protected occupational title. Upon application, Valvira grants the protected occupational title of the profession in question to both those healthcare professionals who obtained their degree in Finland as well as those who obtained it abroad, and registers the granted professional practice rights to the central register of social and health care professionals (Terhikki).
Do the following
Fill in and submit the form by post and attach the following to it:
- an extract from the Population Information System, or a copy of your passport or ID card
- a certificate of completion of specialisation studies issued by a university, or alternatively, a certificate issued by a certification board
- a certificate of basic education preceding the degree, such as a BA or MA degree and a possible pre-doctorate PhLic or a PhD degree
Valvira requests that you provide all the documents as officially certified copies in order to speed up the processing of your application. If the attached document is an ordinary photocopy, Valvira is under the obligation to confirm its authenticity by contacting the granting body, which may significantly delay the processing time.

To whom and on what terms
In order to be granted the right, you must be a qualified hospital physicist.
If you do not have a Finnish personal identity code at the time of applying, you must notify Valvira as soon as you receive it.
A fee is charged for the service.
Apply for the protected occupational title well in advance before starting to practise the profession in Finland.
On average, we aim at processing the applications submitted by applicants trained in Finland within 30 working days from the date of receipt of the application. Should the need arise for further information to be requested in connection with the application, the processing time will usually lengthen.
Period of validity
The protected occupational title is valid for an indefinite term.
