Physical activities for special groups

  • Service
  • Helsinki
  • Public service

Physical activities for special groups are meant for people who have difficulties in joining regular sports activities because of a disability, illness or other weakness.

Special groups are offered diverse physical activities, aimed at providing them with recreation and at maintaining their ability to function and their physical strength. Customers can be joined by their personal assistants.

Sports Services organizes sports activities for customers of mental health rehabilitation services in cooperation with health stations' occupational therapy. Contact your own area's occupational therapy unit or the planner for special sports activities, tel. +358 (0)9 310 87509, for information about available sports groups.

Sports Services also organizes special sports activities in partnership with associations and sports societies. Attendance in such sports activities does not require membership in the associations or sports societies, and attendants should enroll directly with the organizer.

Members of special groups who are Helsinki residents can obtain a swimming card that entitles them to swim on their own at the following swimming halls during their regular hours: Haaga, Itäkeskus, Jakomäki, Kallio, Kontula, Lauttasaari, Malmi, Mäkelänrinne, Pirkkola, Siltamäki, Töölö, Vuosaari, Yrjönkatu and the City of Helsinki outdoor swimming pools.

To obtain a swimming card, the applicant should present a medical report.
