To whom and on what terms

The service is intended for schoolchildren living in the wellbeing services county of Vantaa and Kerava.

Periodic oral health check-ups are carried out for all schoolchildren in grades 1, 5 and 8 in line with the regulation. In addition, the aim is to assess the care needs of pupils in grade 3 to monitor the development of the child's occlusion (bite) and to promote oral health. Based on the individual risk assessment, oral check-ups can be more frequent.

Oral check-ups are usually arranged at a dental clinic near the school. Where possible, check-ups can also take place on school premises or in a mobile dental clinic during the school day. If the guardian is not present at the visit, the student will receive a take-home report on their oral and dental health.

If the child has been in school since the beginning of the school year, the parent or guardian does not need to make an appointment for the periodic check-up. However, if the child has switched schools in the middle of the school year, the guardian is asked to book the appointment.
