Children can receive a referral via the child welfare clinic or school health service, while adults can be referred by a doctor. Occupational therapy can be given as both individual and group therapy.
The client can access occupational therapy services by contacting their local primary healthcare or specialized healthcare provider, where the need for services is assessed and the client is referred to occupational therapy if necessary.
Occupational therapy is medical rehabilitation, the purpose of which is to improve and maintain the patient's functional capacity. For example, an occupational therapist may introduce the customer to different assistive devices that make coping with everyday situations easier and propose changes in the customer’s home. Occupational therapy may be provided individually or for groups.
A fee is charged for the service.
