- Public service
Morning activities for comprehensive school pupils are organised at the City’s comprehensive schools or playgrounds near schools. Participation in morning activities is voluntary and free of charge. Participating children are not served a separate breakfast, but can bring their own meals to eat during the activities.
Morning activities can be organised at all of Helsinki’s 87 Finnish language schools and 14 Swedish language schools as necessary. Morning activities are supervised by school staff or the school can purchase the service from a third party, such as service provider that organises afternoon activities or a sports club.
Morning activities emphasise friendships and the development of positive interaction skills. The activities focus on spending time together in a child-oriented manner, with free-form and party supervised activities that provide a good start to the child’s functional school day. The activities can consist of play, games, outdoor recreation, rest and reading, for example.
Morning activities are organised during the school year in accordance with school-specific operating times between 8:00 and 10:00, depending on each school’s timetable.
Afternoon activities are not available during school holidays or on exceptional school days falling on Saturdays.
