Diplomatic vehicle registration

Diplomatic vehicle registration can be granted for a previously unregistered or used vehicle on the basis of a recommendation for a licence plate from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs Protocol Services office.

You can apply to Traficom for diplomatic vehicle registration for a vehicle you own if the Ministry for Foreign Affairs Protocol Services has made a licence plate recommendation for the vehicle.Unregistered vehicle–

Purchase motor vehicle liability insurance that is valid in Finland for your vehicle.

Conduct a registration inspection if your vehicle has not been registered in Finland.

If the vehicle has submitted advance notification, registration inspection is not necessary.

The diplomatic licence plates will be mailed to the address in Finland given in the application. The invoice for the plates will be sent separately to the billing address.

If the registration number specified in the application is already in use or the vehicle already has registration plates, the diplomatic licence plates must be collected from the Traficom Helsinki office (Kumpulantie 9, 00520 Helsinki). In such situations, the application can be submitted as usual, in accordance with the instructions above.
