Apartment inspection

  • Service
  • Helsinki
  • Public service

A tenant or apartment owner (sometimes also the building manager) can make a request to the City environment sector's Environmental Health unit to review the possible health hazards in the apartment in such situations where there are well-founded reasons to suspect that there may be a health hazard in the apartment, and where the owner of the real estate has not taken any action in order to resolve the possible hazard.

The apartment inspection includes sensory observations as well as possible examinations and measurements, which are performed in accordance with the instructions in the Housing health guide (Guides by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health 2003:1).

A review report is made of all the apartment inspections, and the assessment of the health hazard is recorded in this. Repairs, choosing the repair method and monitoring the repair work are all duties of the party liable for the repairs.
