Terrorism

What is terrorism?

Terrorism is an activity aimed at stirring unrest and fear in society. In most cases, terrorism involves violence or threats. Terrorism primarily affects society through the feeling of insecurity it causes.

The threat of terrorism is combated through cooperation between several authorities. The most important means is prevention which aims at addressing the root causes of terrorism.

The police are primarily responsible for combating terrorism in Finland. The Finnish Security and Intelligence Service monitors both national and international threats to react to them early.

The authorities may follow people associated with terrorist networks, which allows obtaining information about the planning of the attack. This allows preventing the attack before it happens.
