Choosing a place of treatment in a temporary municipality of residence
If you live or spend long periods of time outside your municipality of residence, you can also receive treatment in an area other than that of your residence where you are staying without having to change your place of treatment. The reason for living outside your area of residence may be work, studies, leisure or a family member or some other person close to you who lives in that municipality.
However, your treatment must then be based on a care plan drawn up by your health and social services centre. This means that the health and social services centre responsible for your treatment will not change if your choice for non-emergency treatment will apply only to the health services that are included in your care plan.
On MyKanta pagesOpens in a new window. you can see your care plan as well as your health information, prescriptions and laboratory and x-ray results.
In an emergency, you have the right to receive emergency medical care anywhere in Finland. If you spend extended periods in the municipality where your holiday home is located, you may also receive non-emergency care at the local health and social services centre. In this case, however, your treatment must then be based on a care plan drawn up by your own health and social services centre.
A care plan is prepared together with the treating health care professional and is used to record the diagnosis, need for treatment, aim of the treatment and medication, for example. The health services included in your care plan can be, for example, regular laboratory tests or prescription renewals. Your care plan will also specify the matters that you must handle yourself.
The social services centre in the area where your holiday home is located will provide you with the specific treatments and tests included in your care plan.
