
When you fall ill and seek treatment, the nurse or physician will assess your need for treatment. The assessment defines the need for and urgency of treatment. In urgent cases, treatment is arranged immediately. In non-urgent cases, you will be treated within a certain time limit.
Permanent residents of Finland are insured against illness with health insurance. Kela reimburses costs for medical care and pays sickness allowance, which compensates for the loss of income caused by incapacity for work. You may also receive compensation based on working in Finland.
If your ability to work is reduced because of an illness or a disability, you may receive rehabilitation.
