The start-up grant is generally not awarded if the primary business activity has already commenced before a decision on granting the support has been made.

Be prepared to discuss your planned business and business idea, the competitive situation among companies in the area, your readiness to become an entrepreneur, and the support you need to start your business with the expert.

If necessary, you may be offered preparatory training for entrepreneurship. An external business service provider may be requested to provide an assessment of your business plan.

How to apply for the start-up grant

Apply for a start-up grant in the Job Market Finland e-service. Log in to the e-service with your personal banking ID, mobile certificate or certificate card. Use the printable form if necessary.

Describe your future business as clearly as possible in the application. You will need to attach your business and financial plans to the application. Additional documents may also be requested.

If you need the start-up grant for a period extending beyond the initial decision, submit an extension application no later than one month before the current grant period ends. The extension application should be submitted in the same way as the initial application.

Payment of the start-up grant

Apply for the payment of the start-up grant in the e-service once you have received a favourable decision and started your business. Apply for the payment of grant retroactively one month at a time. Submit the payment application within two months of the end of the payment period.

The Päijät-Häme Employment Services pays the grant twice a month. The payment dates are in the middle and at the end of the month. If your payment application is too late for the first payment date of the month, it will be automatically transferred to the next one.

You can follow the processing of your application in the e-service. If you cannot use the e-service or lack the tools for strong authentication, you can apply for payment using a printable form. Submit the payment application to the Päijät-Häme Employment Services.
