Certificates from the Population Information System

Standard certificate from the self-service

You can order standard certificates from the Certificates from the Population Information System self-service. On the front page of the service, you can see a list of the information contained in the certificate. You will need online banking codes or a Mobile ID when ordering. You can order and pay for the certificates electronically.

• If you use the certificate in Finland, you will receive the certificate electronically immediately after payment as a PDF file.
• If you use the certificate abroad, you will receive a paper certificate by mail.
• Using an identification token issued by another EU country (eIDAS) you can order your own residence or birth certificate from the self-service.

You can order a certificate in Finnish, Swedish or English. You can also order an EU translation form and an Apostille for the certificate.

Certificate with extended information

Order a certificate by online form if

• you need personal and family information for your certificate (please note that the report on family relationships is ordered using a different form)
• you order a certificate for another person.

You can also order a certificate with more extensive information by secure mail (email), telephone, by visiting a service location or by sending a paper form to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency.

You can order the certificate in Finnish, Swedish, English, Spanish, Italian, French or German.

If you are an adult, you can order any available certificate.

Restrictions on the use of the Certificates from the Population Information System self-service

• If you live abroad, you cannot order a life certificate. For a life certificate, you must personally visit either at a Finnish Embassy or at the Digital and Population Data Services Agency’s service location, at the Notary Public’s department.
• If you identified yourself using an identification token issued by another EU country (eIDAS), you can only order your own residence and birth certificate. You will receive the certificate by post.
• If you are under the age of 18, you can only order a certificate of life and residence from the Certificates from the Population Information System self-service. The certificate will only contain your current information. If you also need to include past information or need other certificates, ask your guardian to order the certificate on your behalf on the self-service or visit the Digital and Population Data Services Agency.
• The Certificates from the Population Information System self-service is not available for persons under 15 years of age.
