Youth Employment Support

Employer:

Familiarise yourself with the eligibility requirements and amount of the employment support for young people. You may apply for the support regardless of whether you already have a young employee in mind or need assistance in finding a suitable candidate. We are happy to help you find a young person who fits the position.

Apply for the youth employment support using the designated electronic application form available on the Employment services website. The support must be applied for and agreed upon with the authority responsible for granting it before the employment contract is concluded. When the agreement is made, the employer will receive instructions on how the support will be paid. You may then draw up an employment contract with the young person you have selected.

Young person:

A jobseeker who wishes to be hired can verify their eligibility for the employment support and the support amount by contacting the Pietarsaari region employment services. If you qualify, you will receive an employment voucher that you can show to a potential employer.

Key Points About Youth Employment Support

• The employment support is a form of aid prepared by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and is granted to an employer who hires an unemployed young person.
• The young person hired must be 18–29 years old and registered as an unemployed jobseeker.
• The unemployment period must have lasted at least 6 months.
• Exception: If the young person has completed only basic education, a minimum unemployment period of 3 months is sufficient.
• The employment support covers 50 percent of the young person’s task‑specific salary for a period of 6 months, up to a maximum of 1,500 euros per month.
