Before marriage, an examination of impediments to marriage must be carried out. This ensures that no impediments exist for the marriage.

When requesting an examination of impediments to marriage, you must indicate which last name you use after the marriage ceremony.

Marriages are registered in the Population Information System. Digital and Population Data Services Agency can perform a civil marriage ceremony.

You can order a copy of a registered prenuptial agreement from us, if the agreement was registered on March 1, 2003 or after that.

Spouses can agree that their property will not be divided equally upon the dissolution of the marriage or registered partnership.
