Thanks to Vaasa’s compact size, workplaces and services are extremely accessible. In many residential areas they are within an easy walking or cycling distance. Yet Vaasa is also a lively transport centre with efficient connections by land, sea and air.
Vaasa has an international airport. In addition to freight traffic, it offers passenger services to Stockholm and Helsinki and charter flights to holiday resorts in the sun.
Vaasa port mainly serves freight traffic, but it has a long history of passenger ship services too. The Wasaline passenger liner travels between Vaasa and Umeå year-round, serving the shortest route by sea from Finland to Sweden.
Buses and long-distance trains on the electrified railway serve regular inland routes. The local bus company, Vaasan Paikallisliikenne Oy, takes care of local public transport, with subsidies both from the City and the state.
There is an extensive network of car parks and parking areas in the centre of Vaasa. The largest of these is Toriparkki under the marketplace, with 840 parking spaces.
