In 1929, the City of Helsinki purchased `The Young Elk' from Jussi Mäntynen (1886-1978) to improve the Kaisaniemi park. The work is part of a series in which Mäntynen depicts Finnish wild animals. The series' works have a typically unaffected figurativeness and accuracy of features. The work is cast in bronze and set on a granite pedestal. It belongs to the collections of the Helsinki Art Museum.
