When a company uses state-owned lands or hiking structures maintained by Metsähallitus in its business activities, it usually has to sign an agreement on cooperation or rights of use with Metsähallitus.
If you are interested in using a specific area managed by Metsähallitus in your tourism business, your cooperation partner within Metsähallitus depends on the intended use of the area.
If you are interested in operating as a tourism entrepreneur on state-owned land or concluding a cooperation agreement with Metsähallitus for other reasons, fill in the contact form and tell us about your idea. You can also use the form to submit a renewal request for your existing agreement.
Based on the information you provide, we will direct you to the appropriate cooperation contact within Metsähallitus.
The use of areas managed by Metsähallitus for commercial tourism activities is based on a permit or an agreement. An exception to this is business activity carried out in accordance with the principles of everyman’s rights or the area’s rules and regulations, which is allowed in protected areas without a permit or agreement.
If a company, self-employed professional, or other business operator includes the use of a maintained rest area or a similar structure as part of a paid product, this always requires an agreement with Metsähallitus that grants the right of use.
The use of protected areas for tourism is possible when coordinated with conservation objectives in cooperation with the authorities. Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife and Finland’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites share common sustainable tourism principles, which are taken into account in all operations as well as in cooperation with tourism enterprises.
The agreement is fixed-term and valid for three years.
