Radio licences and identifiers: Boating and navigation

A radio licence is required for the possession and use of radio transmitters in boating and navigation. Such transmitters include marine VHF radiotelephones, Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB), AIS transmitters, Inmarsat satellite transmitters, marine radars, MF/HF radiotelephones and handheld marine VHF radios, UHF radiotelephones (marine frequencies) as well as personal locator beacons (marine frequencies).
A Maritime Mobile Service Identity (MMSI) is issued in connection with a radio licence. All radio transmitters on board a vessel shall use the MMSI number specified in the radio licence. If you apply for a radio licence for a device that is already coded with a MMSI number, please indicate this number in the application.

Period of validity
The radio licence is valid for a fixed period.
