Placement of traffic control devices on private roads

  • Permit or other obligation
  • Pielavesi
  • Public service

On private roads, traffic control devices are traffic signs and barrier devices, i.e. booms. Traffic lights and road markings can also be used on private roads in urban areas.

The road manager may, with the consent of the municipality, place a traffic control device on a private road. The road manager is the road authority, if one has been established. At the road council's meeting, it is decided ...

Do the following

  • At the road council meeting, the acquisition of a traffic sign for a private road must first be approved before seeking the municipality's consent.
  • If the road union has not been established, all road shareholders must sign the application or give written consent to it.
  • In the application, state which traffic signs the county wants to place on the private road.
  • Mark the planned location of a road sign or similar in the map appendix.
  • In the application, explain why traffic signs are applied for on a private road. For example, the road authority can justify that placing a traffic sign increases safety on a private road.
  • Attach a copy of the minutes of the meeting with reasons to the free-form application, which shows the road authority's positive position on the installation of the traffic control device.
