There are several places in the city for all kinds of outdoor recreation.
Tracks maintained by the City serve walkers and runners from spring till autumn and cross-country skiers in the winter. Football players like to practise on fine gravel covered fields in the spring, some of which serve as ice-skating rinks in the winter.
In the summer, the city’s many greens are filled with footballers and people taking fitness classes and practising track and field. Artificial turf allows the playing season to begin early in the spring and continue late into autumn. Finnish baseball is played on artificial, sand-filled turf. The city’s beaches are divided into groups according to their bathing water profiles and they offer different kinds of equipment.
