  • Permit or other obligation
  • 5 municipalities
  • Public service

Any sudden degradation of the environment or risk of such degradation must be immediately reported to the municipal environmental protection authority or to the emergency response centre. The situation can be caused, for example, by an accident, an unanticipated production failure, or the dismantling of a structure.

Do the following

If the activity is based on a permit granted by a State authority, submit the notification to the authority that granted the permit. Otherwise, submit a notification to the municipality’s environmental authority. Also submit a notification in situations that do not require a permit.

If the exceptional situation poses a sudden hazard to the population, submit a notification to the municipality’s environmental authority or the emergency response centre immediately. After this, you must prepare for rapid cooperation with the authorities in order to manage the situation.

To whom and on what terms

If a trader has established their business in another country within the European Economic Area and intends to provide their services temporarily in Finland, the trader is subject to the same obligations as all other traders established in Finland.

Background information

Sudden contamination or a risk of sudden contamination of the environment must be reported to the municipal environmental protection authority or the emergency response centre without delay.
