Notification of an exceptional situation in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act

Sudden contamination or a risk of sudden contamination of the environment must be reported to the competent authority without delay.

Do the following

If the activity is based on a permit granted by a State authority, submit the notification to the authority that granted the permit. Otherwise, submit a notification to the municipality’s environmental authority. Also submit a notification in situations that do not require a permit.

If the exceptional situation poses a sudden hazard to the population, submit a notification to the municipality’s environmental authority or the emergency response centre immediately. After this, you must prepare for rapid cooperation with the authorities in order to manage the situation.

To whom and on what terms

If a trader has established their business in another country within the European Economic Area and intends to provide their services temporarily in Finland, the trader is subject to the same obligations as all other traders established in Finland.

Sudden contamination or a risk of sudden contamination of the environment must be reported to the municipal environmental protection authority or the emergency response centre without delay.
