The aim of the museum services is to maintain and strengthen people's understanding of culture, history and their surroundings. The museums are open to the public.

Museums are responsible for preserving and conserving cultural and natural heritage for future generations. They also provide information to the public through exhibitions and publications, and carry out research and education.

To whom and on what terms

Finnish museums operate according to the Museums Act and are free of charge. The local history society in Sipoo is called Sibbo Hembygdsförening rf. and administer the archives of the Sipoo region.

Most of Finland's museums are jointly funded by the state and the municipalities. Museums also finance their activities through their own fundraising, such as admission fees.
