To whom and on what terms

You can get special services under the Disability Services Act if you have a long-term or permanent disability caused by a disability or illness that means you absolutely need support and help with your daily activities. These services and support measures are provided to you if you do not receive adequate and appropriate services under any other law. Disability services are intended to complement other social and health services.

A person with a disability living with his/her own family or other close relatives is entitled to short-term care when the persons responsible for the care of the person with a disability are temporarily prevented from caring for the person with a disability because of obligations in their own lives or the need for rest or recreation, and the person with a disability then needs help or support with activities of daily living or supervision for safety reasons.

Short-term care under the Disability Services Act is provided only where necessary. Necessary care is considered to be a situation where the carers are unable to take care of the child because of work or study and the care cannot be provided in any other way during this period. The primary responsibility for organizing care during the holiday period lies with the carers.  Morning and afternoon care is provided for children of primary school age if it cannot be provided by other means.
