Hygiene Passport

A hygiene passport is proof of food hygiene competence. Its purpose is to ensure that people working in the food sector know how to handle food safely and hygienically.

You must have a hygiene passport if you work in a food premises and handle unpackaged perishable food products.

Do the following

  1. Register for a hygiene passport test with a hygiene passport tester approved by the Finnish Food Authority.
  2. Take the test and demonstrate your knowledge of food hygiene.
  3. If you pass the test, you will receive a hygiene passport.

To whom and on what terms

A hygiene passport is required for persons who work in food premises and handle unpackaged perishable food products.

Employees must be able to demonstrate their food hygiene competence with a hygiene passport no later than three months after starting work that requires one.


Period of validity

The hygiene passport is valid indefinitely.
