Background information

A person is eligible for sheltered housing with 24-hour assistance if

  • the need for care and attention is independent of the time of day due to illness, ageing or disability
  • treatment and care cannot be carried out otherwise.

For people with disabilities, 24-hour sheltered housing can also be arranged at their home.

Sheltered housing with 24-hour assistance can be provided on a continuous or short-term basis. In addition to care, treatment and guidance, 24-hour sheltered housing includes activities that maintain and promote the client’s functional capacity, outdoor activities and exercise, meal services, clothing care, washing and cleaning services, as well as other necessary services on a 24-hour basis.

Clients may furnish their own homes. The client pays a monthly fee for 24-hour sheltered housing, which is determined on the basis of rent and income. The fee includes services included in sheltered housing with 24-hour assistance. The client also pays for their medicines and other expenses (e.g. haircut). 24-hour sheltered housing is provided by public and private service providers.
