The purpose of food control is to protect consumers from health hazards caused by food. Food control also aims to support the operating conditions of food businesses. The control covers the entire supply chain from primary production to consumption.
The municipality’s food and health inspectors and veterinarians are responsible for the control of food premises and facilities.
Food control applies to food and its production, transport, storage, sale, serving, import and export as well as labelling.
Food control also includes the investigation of food-related complaints and suspected food poisoning incidents, the processing of notifications and applications related to food business operations and advising residents and businesses in Vantaa on food-related matters.
