Approval of means of identification for animals

Do the following

Under section 8 of the Act on the Identification and Registration of Animals 1069/2021 and the EU animal health law, the obligation to mark bovine, ovine, caprine, porcine, camel, deer and equine animals is only met by identifier models approved by the Finnish Food Authority. If you want the Finnish Food Authority’s approval for a new identifier model, send a free-form application to: "Division for Animal Identification and Registration, Finnish Food Authority, P.O. Box 200, FI-00027 FOOD AUTHORITY or electronically to: kirjaamo@ruokavirasto.fi.

The application must indicate the following:

Identifier manufacturer, model, colour, dimensions

  • Technical specifications of the identifier. The requirements are listed in parts 1 and 2 of the Annex II to (EU) 2021/520.
  • Delivery times for identifiers also for replacement marks.
  • A description of compatible ear pliers or readers.
  • If the identification model for which approval is being sought has already been approved by another Member State, please attach the relevant decision as an appendix to the application to expedite the processing

The application must also include samples of the identifiers where the ear tags and electronic ear tags have digits in addition to the FI code printed on them.
