ADR driving certificate for transporting dangerous goods
- Nationwide except the Åland Islands
- Public service
Drivers are required to have a specific ADR driving certificate, if they transport dangerous goods in excess of the allowed quantity. Receiving the certificate requires training and passing an ADR driving certificate test.
Access to the driving certificate test requires successfully completing the training for transporting dangerous goods no more than 12 months previously. An approved ADR driving certificate test is valid for six months, during which the driver must apply for the ADR driving certificate at an Ajovarma location. The certificate is valid in domestic and international transport (contracting parties to the ADR).
Renewing and extending the ADR driving certificate
The validity of the ADR driving certificate can be extended by five years from its expiry date, if the applicant meets the requirements set for granting the certificate and has successfully passed a test corresponding to the supplementary course no more than twelve months prior to the certificate expiring.
If the test corresponding to the supplementary course has been successfully passed more than twelve months prior to the expiry of the certificate, a new driving certificate valid for five years will be granted starting from the date of the test.
If the extent of the driving certificate is extended during its validity, the validity of the new certificate is the same as the previous certificate’s.
If you need an ADR driving certificate for international transport, you should allow for approximately two weeks for the arrival of the certificate. You may request a temporary ADR certificate from the driving certificate test receiver on special grounds. A temporary certificate will allow you to only drive in Finland with the exception of the Åland Islands.
