Accessibility of the mobile application for Suomi.fi Messages

This accessibility statement explains how the Suomi.fi mobile application complies with the Act on the Provision of Digital Services, what shortcomings there are in the accessibility of the mobile application and how you can give us feedback on accessibility issues. 

The Digital and Population Data Services Agency is responsible for this mobile application. The Suomi.fi application is available for Android and iOS mobile phones and tablets. We want as many users as possible to be able to access our digital services. We take accessibility into account in the development of digital services.

How accessible is the mobile application?

The Android and iOS applications partially meet the statutory accessibility requirements of the EN 301 549 standard for mobile applications. The applications have some shortcomings in accessibility, which are described in more detail below.

We are constantly striving to improve the accessibility of the mobile application. If you observe any issues that are not described on this page, please let us know and we will do our best to fix any shortcomings. We will respond to requests and comments as soon as possible, but no later than within two weeks.

Accessibility monitoring

Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom monitors the implementation of accessibility requirements. If you are not satisfied with the response you have received or you do not receive a response at all within two weeks, you can give feedback to Traficom. More detailed information on technical accessibility

The Android and iOS applications are not yet fully accessible.  

Content or features that are not yet accessible in the Android application 

  • Not all headings of views have been programmatically determined in a way that can be understood by assistive devices. (WCAG 1.3.1) 
  • The error messages given when PINs are entered are not automatically read by the screen reader. (WCAG Success Criterion 4.1.3) 
  • In the PIN entry view, it is not possible to determine programmatically in a manner that can be understood by assistive devices how many figures have already been entered or how many still need to be entered. (WCAG 1.3.1) 
  • As for the web content presented within the application, the application does not adapt to the user setting contrast of the platform software. (EN 301549 v3.2.1 clause 11.7) 

Content or features that are not yet accessible in the iOS application 

  • The correct reading order cannot always be determined programmatically when switching between different views in the application. (WCAG Success Criterion 1.3.2) 
  • Some error messages are not automatically read by the screen reader. (WCAG Success Criterion 4.1.3) 
  • The text alternative for the logo of the message activation view is missing. (WCAG 1.1.1) 
  • In the PIN entry view, it is not possible to determine programmatically in a manner that can be understood by assistive devices how many figures have already been entered or how many still need to be entered. (WCAG 1.3.1) 

Efforts will be made to correct the listed shortcomings during 2027.

How have we tested accessibility?

The observations in this accessibility statement are based on an assessment made by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency's accessibility expert on whether the mobile application meets legal requirements.

The Suomi.fi mobile applications were published in summer 2018.  The updated versions of the Suomi.fi mobile applications were published in spring 2024.

This statement was prepared on 5 May 2021. The statement was last updated on 18 September 2026.

This statement applies to the application's Android version 2.2.2 and iOS version 2.10.4.
