Use of Messages by an underaged child
There is no age limit for using Suomi.fi Messages. Individuals under the age of 18 can start to use Suomi.fi Messages themselves if they have personal tokens for strong identification, such as banking codes or a mobile certificate.
A guardian can also act on behalf of their underaged child. In order for you to be able to use Suomi.fi Messages on behalf of your dependent, you must be the child's legal guardian in the Population Information System.
In some cases, you may not be able to act on behalf of your dependent.
Follow the steps below when activating Suomi.fi Messages on behalf of an under-age child:
- Log into Suomi.fi using your personal identification device. The Identification button is on the Messages page and in the top right corner of each Suomi.fi page. You can find additional information on identification on the How to identify yourself in an e-service page.
- Go to the Messages page, if you are not logged in directly.
- To act on behalf of your dependent, press the "Act on behalf of another party" button and by selecting the option "I am acting on behalf of another person".
- Select the dependent on whose behalf you wish to act from the list. After making the selection, you will be directed to the messages view and you will see that you are now acting on behalf of another person.
- To begin the activation of Suomi.fi Messages, click on the "Activate Suomi.fi Messages" button and fill in the information requested on the page that opens. Set your dependent's email address as the notification email address.
- A confirmation email will be sent to the email address you entered in the previous section. Your dependent has to open the confirmation message sent to the email address, note down the six-digit verification code in the message and enter it in the Suomi.fi Web Service. Alternatively, your dependent can give the verification code to you, in which case you can enter it in the Suomi.fi Web Service.
- After confirming the email address, Suomi.fi Messages will have been activated for your dependent.
Note that the verification code is valid for half an hour. If the confirmation is not made by the deadline, start the Suomi.fi Messages activation again for your dependent. Suomi.fi Messages cannot be activated without confirming the email address.
