Diplomatic representation

Finnish diplomatic representations throughout the world monitor local security and prepare bulletins for the website of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. These bulletins provide details on the political situation in the country concerned and provide warnings about crime and dangerous regions. They also provide information on traffic problems and give reminders about vaccinations. Finnish diplomatic representations provide help for Finns who find themselves in emergency situations abroad.

Embassies and consulates help in emergencies and crises and may issue temporary passports for return trips to Finland. They are unable to operate in contravention of the laws of the country, however. Honorary consuls have more limited opportunities for giving assistance: they are unable to issue passports. Usually, the most they can do is to assist in contacting the local authorities or a diplomatic representation somewhere else.
