Legislation and permits

An official permit is usually required for every action that may change or spoil the environment. Both companies and citizens need permits. Advice on permits can be obtained from local environmental authorities, Regional State Administrative Agencies, and Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment.

Environmental protection in Finland is controlled by legislation. During Finland’s EU membership, national environmental legislation has been adapted to correspond to EU legislation.
