The activities can include various subcontracting and gardening works, crafts and work related to food, cleaning and laundry services.

Day activities support the customer's individual functional abilities and communication.

For example, the activities may include music, sports and activities that aim to exercise the various senses and the perceiving of one's self.

The service is applied for from the social work unit of the customer's own residential area.

The service is provided by work and day activities or private service providers.

The meals will be charged from the customer. Otherwise, the services are free of charge for the customers. The Activity Centre will pay for the customers' commuting. Those coming in by public transport will be given a HSL travel card. For others, a transport service between their home and the activity centre will be arranged.

To whom and on what terms

The customer is over 18 years old and has an intellectual disability.

The service is only for citizens of Helsinki.

Background information

Day activities are organised for persons with disabilities, older persons and other social welfare service users to support independent coping, promote interpersonal relationships and offer the persons something meaningful to do. In day activities, the service users may play games, listen to music, dance or take other types of indoor or outdoor exercise, and have guided or informal discussions.

If a person with severe disabilities does not have the capabilities for work activities, they are entitled to participate in day activities five days a week. A person in working age who participates in day activities may also try taking part in work activities.
