Vocational and career guidance is guidance offered by psychologists to help you to assess and make choices about your career, educational or employment options.

The City of Tampere is responsible for offering this service to persons whose municipality of residence is Tampere and who belong to the target group for local government employment pilot projects.

The target group for these pilots includes unemployed job seekers, subsidised persons in employment and job seekers in services promoting employment.

1) who are not entitled to an earnings related daily allowance or

2) who are under 30 years of age, immigrants or foreign language speakers.

The local government pilots on promoting employment have been enacted by law (Act 1269/2020).

When you talk confidentially to a psychologist specialising in education, career and related changes, you will be listened to and your concerns will be addressed. When you describe your situation and your wishes to someone else, you will get a better idea of what you should aim for and what you could do to achieve your goal. The objective is to help the customer to develop a career plan that is suitable for their situation and takes into consideration the opportunities offered by the labour market, leading to a sustainable solution.

Each individual guidance discussion lasts for approximately one hour. You can talk with the same psychologist on one or more occasions. In addition to discussions, the guidance can include psychological tests, education or work try-outs, and interim tasks. The service is free of charge for customers.

Career counselling can help you if you are wondering, for example, the following questions:

•What career or study goals should I set for myself at this stage of my life?

•What sector or training should I pursue, or could I change my field of study?

•What am I interested in and what is important to me?

•What am I good at, what are my strengths and what could I improve on for myself?

•How much am I ready to put at stake to achieve my goals?

•How does my state of health affect my choices?

•How do I make a choice when I am interested in everything, or interested in nothing
